Short Film - Experimenting to find a workflow

The Goal is to make a short film, In a clay mation style, in Blender. Blender not because of any reason other than cost. This is going to be challenge, because its quite different from what I have done in the past. The project will focus mainly on the story of one character, meaning it will be character animation rather than automotive, or hard surface modelling, or games, you get the idea.

I had a go hand animating, and quickly got fed up. Not because it was imposible, but because it was going to be too time consuming.

Looking into alternatives, I stumbled across Rokoko. They have workflow allowing you to film an action, and turn it into a mocap set. My first experiments with this are below.

Its a quick and dirty render, only 720p. however, changing some of the output settings (primarily to reduce the animation frame rate) did make it look surprisingly stop motion. This gave me the confidence to suggest it as a potential workflow, allowing us to cut back alot of time in animating the character. This will allow us to focus on the story telling, and ensure the set is as good as it can be.
